We take the opportunity to talk about this book. Like many, we are not insensitive to the quality of this book, as much for the photos, as for the story that is told; but especially for the richness of the gardens presented.
We had the chance to visit many, remarkable. We can only advise you to get the book and arrange visits to these places.
If the book is an enchantment, finding oneself in these paradises is an ecstasy.
We will also schedule, as much as possible, visiting the gardens, which we have not yet walked.

Cédric Pollet's book is intoxicating and inspiring.

What good ideas to give relief to his garden in winter. What we like to emphasize is the importance of conifers.
'Jardins d'hiver' is the third and last book of a trilogy on bark. It is therefore normal that the accent is especially given to trees and shrubs with this decorative quality.
But Cédric gives us to understand, that these elements are even better highlighted with other plants, such as grasses, heather, but also the evergreen foliage conifers of which carve the most beautiful part.

The second part of the book is devoted to beautiful winter plants, starting with bark and colored wood, but it also speaks of flowers, fruits, foliage, plumes or dried umbels. His approach to winter gardens, outdoors, is unquestionably well supplied, full of examples and scenarios.

A winter garden is multiple, and will be all the more beautiful, if it is varied. If the first winter gardens were mainly coniferous, as Cédric Pollet tells, the gardeners have understood that the beautiful barks could stand out more.

What we remember

If we follow the evolution of the winter garden for the last 30 years, in the book, we find that the French had first, only retained the interest of the beautiful barks, forgetting a little, the plants originating from these gardens: conifers.
We are personally delighted, when we visit the Etang de Launay, that Jean Louis Dantec, whose garden is more or less the same age as ours (a few more years), uses with taste, and without much restraint, the conifers.
If history shows us these subtle variations of interest, we are convinced today that we can find the true balance for a harmonious and less exclusive garden.

The many plants mentioned in the book are quite complicated to obtain. And especially with the nurserymen cited at the end of the book, which are, moreover, only French. The buffs know it and go out, borders to go find the pearls in England, Belgium and the Netherlands, mainly. All the owners of these beautiful gardens do it, we can certify it to you. It's a shame to silence the information.
Note, for example, that Stone Lane Gardens, cited and photographed in the visited gardens of the book, is also a sharp nursery in bark birches, precisely. But this is not specified.

Conclusion

This book is a real gem, an indisputable must-have of your library. It is full of information, touching stories, beautiful examples and especially sensitive and accurate images.
But you must also be able to read it between the lines, because it contains innumerable treasures tus.

Une rencontre passionnante avec Cédric POLLET !

Vendredi 09 novembre, l’association « Le sécateur » avait organisé une magnifique conférence au jardin Botanique de Liège. Une organisation parfaite, une conférence où nous nous sommes régalés et où nous avons retrouvé certains de nos collègues des pépinières Hennebelle, Ventval et Bonnivers et aussi beaucoup de têtes connues, que l’on croise régulièrement dans les jardins et les foires aux plantes.

Cédric nous a fait part de son histoire, de sa rencontre avec le monde des écorces, de ce vieux chêne qui lui a montré sa voie et duquel il n’a pourtant aucune photo (sur la photo de la conférence, il s'agit d'un autre chêne). A deux reprises les pellicules se sont égarées.

Il nous a fait voyager à travers ses trois livres, sublimes.

Le premier, « ECORCES, voyage dans l’intimité des arbres et des arbustes » est toujours disponible auprès des Editions Ulmer et dans toutes les bonnes librairies. Il nous fait découvrir le monde végétal par ses écorces, nous dévoile les subtilités des couleurs au fil des saisons et des continents. Il nous révèle tous les secrets des belles écorces.

Le second, quant à lui est épuisé. Il n’en reste que quelques exemplaires chez Cédric et vous pouvez encore vous le procurer sur son site internet :

« ECORCES, Galerie d’art à ciel ouvert » est un véritable condensé de photos artistiques où la matière première est l’écorce. L’artiste nous en peint des tableaux époustouflants, sans cesse réinventés, au fils des saisons.

Il nous raconte sa Xylothèque (terme qu’il invente, car rien n’existe pour nommer une tel rassemblement), collection d’écorce, joliment présentée.

Le troisième, « JARDINS d’HIVER, une saison réinventée », toujours aux éditions Ulmer, a notamment remporté le prix Redouté. Ce magnifique ouvrage nous parle du jardin d’hiver, de sa courte histoire, puisque les précurseurs de cette tendance se situent à la fin du XXème siècle. Il nous donne une foule d’exemples, d’idées, de conseils pour réaliser un véritable jardin d’hiver, plus beau en cette saison ‘morte’ qu’à n’importe quelle autre. Les jardins visités sont choisis avec raison, ils sont magnifiques. Découvrir ou redécouvrir ces lieux, sous l’œil averti et personnel de Cédric Pollet, fut un véritable bonheur.

UNE RENCONTRE A DOMICILE

Mais ce n’est pas tout. Notre rencontre se situe, en réalité, deux jours auparavant. Le mercredi 07 novembre, Cédric débarque à Bastogne pour y passer deux petites journées. Il découvre nos jardins et notre passion et cette rencontre n’est que partages autour du végétal. On se rencontre l’un et les autres, que ce monde est encore plus vaste que nous le pensions. Nous repoussons encore nos limites et découvrons un réel fou de nature.

Nous lui donnons des cônes et il nous apporte de belles cartes postales de ses œuvres que vous pouvez également acquérir sur son site. Il laisse également, à notre attention particulière deux notes des plus délicates, en dédicace de son 2nd livre et dans notre livre d’or.

Nous sommes enchantés de cette belle rencontre, comme seul le monde des plantes a le secret. Désormais, c’est certains, nous ne regarderons plus les écorces de la même façon et dès que nous couperons ou taillerons un arbre, nous penserons à Cédric et lui garderons un bel échantillon pour compléter sa xylothèque.
