GENERAL PHYSIOLOGY

  • DIMENSIONS: Can reach 6-8m in height.
  • PORT: Flared, narrow crown.
  • TRUNK: Hairless, later rough. The trunks of older specimens turn orange-brown.

PHYSIOLOGY OF LEAVES

  • SHAPE: The leaves are oval to ovoid, finely chiseled.
  • COLOR: In spring, the leaves emerge orange-yellow to yellow and remain yellow-green to fresh green in summer. The young leaves also turn yellow in summer, creating a beautiful brightening effect. In autumn, the leaves turn golden yellow again, with an orange glow in the right light.
  • NOTE: Deciduous leaves. Ogon means gold in Japanese and this clearly refers to what this cultivar was selected for.
